NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR SCHOOLS
Howard has been an educator for 26 years, a majority of which have been spent in classrooms with students from an incredibly wide variety of backgrounds. Since 2014, he’s worked as a Foster Youth Services Counselor for the LA County Office of Education, representing the educational rights of 30,000 students in foster care across the 80 school districts of LA County. Every day presents new and unique opportunities to create true equity for Black, Latino, LGBTQ+, and Special Ed students who’ve also experienced unspeakable trauma. A typical day may include attending an IEP meeting to ensure a student receives mandated services, evaluating transcripts from multiple high schools to ensure partial credits are awarded, assisting in the completion of the FAFSA, or facilitating workshops on Trauma Informed Practices and Youth Mental Health First Aid.
In addition to his career in education, Howard has also worked in radio for many years (both on-air and behind the scenes), owned a restaurant in Japan, done stand-up comedy, and successfully completed the procreation process at least twice.
